Connect Microsoft Copilot Studio to Olark so an agent can search your chat transcripts. These steps are for Copilot Studio. Microsoft 365 Copilot and the Copilot app are different products, and this setup does not apply to them.
The Olark connection usually takes 15–30 minutes once you can sign in to Copilot Studio and edit an agent. If your organization has to approve the Microsoft sign-in first, that wait is separate. In some tenants, signing in to Microsoft has taken more than a week.
For what you can ask, how search works, and the limits, see Connect Olark to your AI assistant with the Olark MCP server.
Things you’ll need
-
Microsoft Copilot Studio, plus permission to edit an agent and create a connection.
-
Time for IT to approve the connection if your organization requires it. Copilot Studio can ask for permission more than once, including when the agent runs a tool. Those prompts are part of setup. Responses can also be slower than in other assistants.
-
The Olark server URL, including
/mcp:https://mcp.olark.com/mcp
You can copy that address from the AI Connector page in Olark. Paste the full address. The host alone, mcp.olark.com, is not enough.
Connect Olark
- In Copilot Studio, create an agent if you do not already have one, then open it. Copilot Studio cannot add the Olark server until an agent exists.
- Add a tool and choose Model Context Protocol.
- Enter the name Olark, a short description (for example, “Search Olark chat transcripts”), and the server URL
https://mcp.olark.com/mcp. - Choose OAuth 2.0. Leave Dynamic discovery unselected.
- Complete the connection prompts and sign in with your Olark account.
- Approve access, then add the tool to the agent.
Use the Olark account that can view the transcripts you want the agent to search. If Copilot Studio asks you to approve the connection again when the agent runs the tool, approve it. That repeat prompt is expected.
Check that it works
Ask the agent:
Using Olark, list 3 chat topics from the last 24 hours.
The agent should answer from your chats and include links to transcripts when it can.
If the agent cannot use Olark
Sign-in can succeed and the agent can still report that the request failed. That happens when Copilot Studio calls the host without /mcp. Entering only mcp.olark.com, or choosing Dynamic discovery, has led to that.
Editing the address afterward in Power Automate does not correct the path Copilot Studio calls. Remove the tool and add it again with https://mcp.olark.com/mcp and OAuth 2.0.
After you connect
Ask for a time period and the shape of the answer you want. More example prompts, the transcript filters, bot tools, and the search limits are in the Olark MCP server guide. Each search returns up to 100 matching transcripts, and transcript searching is limited to 60 requests an hour for each Olark site.
On the AI Connector page, an administrator can turn on Redact personal information. Olark then masks names, email addresses, phone numbers, and similar details in results before they are returned. Masking reduces exposure, but it can miss details or mask the wrong text.
